The Lady Falcons boarded the 4:30 bus and headed to Seattle to play their first road game of the season. It was Friday night and their opponent was the Roosevelt Rough Riders coached by the legendary Gregg Kalina. The Lady Riders brought and unblemished 3-0 record with nice wins over Nathan Hale, Bothell, and Seattle Prep. The Lady Riders feature one of the finer perimeter lineups in the league with some very young talented girls: Catherine Killian, Katherine Woodworth, Sidney Melkerson, and Tanner Adams.
Senior Falcons Crystal Nybo, Amanda Frost, and Sarah Hale knew we had our work cut out for us this evening. All of the Ladies had been eagerly awaiting this early season showdown with Roosevelt for some time now. They had met the Lady Riders five times in their previous two years and had yet to come away victorious. The girls felt confident that this was the time to get it done.
The ladies from Woodinville came ready to play and jumped out of the gate with an early 16-4 first quarter lead. Ali Forde and Sarah Hale led the way early with 6 points each in the first stanza. Ali's points came on the inside and Sarah's from behind the arc. The second quarter was played pretty evenly and the Falcons went to the locker room ahead 27-13 at the half.
Melissa Gilkey then turned on her game in the third quarter and ignited a 20 point period with 11 points of her own including one behind the arc. Crystal Nybo was solid all evening on 8-14 shooting to lead all scorers with 18 points. Both Amanda Frost and Ali Forde did a great job sharing the ball and each added 5 assists for the evening.
Maddie Graham came off the bench again with some fantastic energy. She went 3-4 from the field to go along with her 4 boards and 1 steal. The ladies also finished the evening with a season low 9 turnovers. The final score Woodinville 62 vs. Roosevelt 33.
