The Lady Beavers gave the Lady Falcons a battle for their life tonight. Both teams struggled to score in a slow first half. The Falcons often settling for quick threes and not finding the range. At the end of one quarter it was 8-7 in favor of Ballard. The Lady Falcons went on a little run to start the second and go ahead 18-12 but the girls from Ballard responded right back. At the half it was all tied up at 18.
Both teams came out with increased energy in the second half. The girls from Woodinville decided to go to their strength and get the ball inside. Both Ali Forde and Melissa Gilkey would combine for 40 points and almost 30 boards on the night. The Lady Falcons would pour in 23 third quarter points behind their strong inside play. The Beavers, however, kept it close with 15 more of their own. 5'3" senior guard Kayla Wenger led the way with 7 of the 15. She would finish with 14 on the night. At the end of three quarters it was 41-33.
In the final stanza, six foot junior Taylor Hall did everything she could to keep the Beavers close. She was a perfect 7-7 from the field on the night and finished with a team high 14 points. Eight of her points came in the fourth. In the end Amanda Frost would help put it away with a couple long three balls. She had four on the night and finished with 13 points.
The final was 61-47 in favor of the green and blue. The Lady Falcons left the Ballard gym with great respect for the Lady Beavers and their effort on the court. The ladies from Woodinville also left with a sense of relief and a league best 13-1 record.
