The Lady Falcons met the Miramonte Matadors from Northern California for the San Diego Surf N Slam Title game. The 10:30 game was played at Mission Bay High School. The Matadors entered the game with an 11-2 record. They are led by 6'3" Gonzaga recruit Stephanie Goldman. Goldman would finish with a team high 14 points for the Lady Matadors.
The Falcons scored first on a three ball by Amanda Frost. The ladies used that momentum to jump out early to a 9-2 lead. They would not lose the lead the entire first half and and would only trail once the entire game. Amanda Frost opened things up with four more big buckets behind the arc on the day. She would finish with a game high 12 points and would be voted player of the game. Most amazing was the fact that the Lady Falcons had five players in double figures for the second straight game (Frost 12, Forde 11, Hale 11, Gilkey 10, and Nybo 10).
The Matadors from the Bay Area would make a run early in the 3rd quarter to briefly take a 34-33 lead. The Falcons then went on a 10 point run to retake control of the game. Ali Forde and Melissa Gilkey continued to dominate the boards with each getting double digit rebounds in all three tournament games.
Ali Forde was voted tournament MVP. Both Melissa Gilkey and Crystal Nybo also voted to the first team.
