The Lady Falcons opened the season at home against the T-Birds from Mt. Tahoma. It was the first time ever for the two schools to meet on the hardwoods. The T-Birds have been very successful under current head coach Calvin McHenry. His girls from Tacoma have been to the state tournament four straight years with 20 or more wins each year. Last year they finished 22-7.
The T-Birds feature one of the tallest players in the state in 6'-6" Jessi Williamson. They also have one of the best guard tandems in the state with Deborah Anderson and Kaitlin Bunger. The two guards combined for 55 points against Kent Meridian the night before coming to Woodinville.
The Lady Falcons eager to get their season started jumped out early on the visiting T-Birds. The girls from Woodinville led 11-0 out of the gate and finished the quarter up 30-10. They kept the pressure on and extended the lead to 46-19 by half time. At the end of three quarters it was 65-30. Final score was 77-54.
The Falcons finished with 4 players in double figures : Ali Forde 17, Melissa Gilkey 15, Crystal Nybo 12, and Carmen Vasilatos 11. More impressive were the rebound numbers. The 61 total rebounds for the game shattered the old team record of 51 against Sammamish in 1994. Ali Forde and Melissa Gilkey led the effort on the glass with 17 and 13 respecitvely. Ali Forde's 9 offensive rebounds tied a school record set by Leslie Tuiasosopo in 1994.
